I was very excited for this day because we were going to open up the heart. We started by identifying the things that were around the heart so that we didn't have to cut it out right away and risk cutting the wrong arteries or veins that we need to identify in the future. We started with the easiest labels. Because the trachea is very straw like and easy to identify, we started by identifying the trachea and moved to the common cartoid arteries. Also, it was very easy for me to identify the pericardium and orientation of the heart. I didn't like the feel of the lungs though. It felt very weird to hold the lungs which were soft and malleable. To our surprise, our cat had a transverse jugular. We were one of few in the class so a lot of people came over and looked at it. Then, at the very end of the class we finally removed the cat heart right as the bell rang. Too bad we will have to wait to open the heart until next class.
